Intelsat General and Braxton Technologies has began to study the use of commercial systems for Tracking, Telemetry and Command (TT&C) of government satellites for the U.S. Air Force. Recently, the Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN) employs 15 ground-based TT&C antennas to operate government satellites. These 15 antennas are located at seven different sites in the world. Based on the cooperating between military and contractors at these different sites, the AFSCN Commercial Provisioning (CP) study will value to use command and control networks from both government and commercial.

Frank Backes, CEO of Braxton Technologies, once said, "The commercial marketplace has led to a less costs for a ground TT&C antenna architecture than the Air Force, which is even less than one fifth of the costs the Air Force to operate the AFSCN today.Cooperating with IGC, we can provide a moderate, safe and extremely reliable network at a far greater capability and less cost."

When the 90-day study is finishing, the companies will prepare a 2- to 5-year plan to transition TT&C functions of government satellites to commercial companies. Intelsat General is one of the four companies which are awarded contracts to study this commercialization opportunity.
